CARE OF PIGEONS & INJURIES
               GENERAL
Injuries should be left to the professionals,   you can splint a leg
or if  the wing is broken you can wrap the wing carefully to hold
it in place if there are no other alternatives.
If a bird has been injured you should  keep the bird  warm and
hydrate the bird if necessary.    You can place a heating pad on
low and put a towel over it and place the bird on top of it.   Keep
the bird in a quiet location. If a bird looks really exhausted,
Gatorade or other proprietary sports drink may be added to the
water. A teaspoon or two per cup (250 ml) of water will help
replenish electrolytes.
How to wrap a wing:
Need:
Vet Tape (gauze that sticks to itself)
scissors
Someone to help you
Cut a long piece   (unstretched) of tape.  Enough to wrap around
pigeon a couple times.

Using your hands, secure the broken wing against the body in its
natural position.

Wrap the tape on the outside of the broken wing and around the
body under the healthy wing.

You must be sure that you are not  interfering with the birds
breathing! Do not wrap too tightly.

Have your help   hold his feet back and then hold his good wing up.

Secure the tape to itself.

Pigeons are seed eaters.  Provide a commercial
packaged Pigeon Feed Mix  making sure feed is not dirty
or moldy.  If none is immediatly  available,  uncooked rice,
popcorn, lentils will suffice for emergency feed.
Packaged Pigeon Mineral Grit must be provided everyday
also.  This helps birds to digest their food
.
Provide CLEAN FRESH water!  Provide vitamins.
Pigeons must be kept in a clean, dry  area, away
from drafts but  well ventilated.  Have a flight pen
exposed to sun so birds can get sunlight.
Pigeon love to take a bath.  They should be supplied a
bath pan at least once a week.
Do not overcrowd your birds.  This put unneeded stress
on your birds.   Vaccinate  your birds for PMV,
Paratyphoid and Pox.    Worm your birds  and dust for
lice and mites.
